Jovial Clipboard

Jovial Clipboard is a lightweight and portable piece of software that keeps track of multiple clips copied to the Clipboard. By keeping a history list, you can easily retrace your steps when working on a project, for example.

Portability advantages

As there is no installation involved, you can put the program files in any part of the hard disk and just launch the executable file. There is also the possibility to save Jovial Clipboard to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
Worth mentioning is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk without permission, leaving it clean after removal.

Accessibility via the system tray

At startup, Jovial Clipboard creates a tray icon but does not bring up any window. In order to memorize a clip, you have to add it from the tray icon's context menu by clicking an entry.

Add, select and export clips

All entries are recorded in a submenu and they are filed under the time and date taken. Replacing the current Clipboard content with any of these text clips is seamlessly done by just making a selecion. In addition, it is possible to export the entire list with clips to a plain text document for closer examination and safekeeping. There are no other noteworthy options available.

Evaluation and conclusion

There are some obvious downsides to the app. It does not automatically retain the currently existing clips while recording the previous one to the history list, and does not support hotkeys for quickly adding, deleting and examining recorded clips. On top of that, it is not possible to change the entry naming rules, making it difficult to tell apart numerous clips by time and date.
CPU and RAM consumption was low in our tests, and the tool did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. We have not come across any stability issues. Although Jovial Clipboard gets the job done, it is quite inconvenient to work with, especially when taking into account that similar apps are better.
