Monochromes Description
Monochromes is a plugin specially designed for Paint.net, which enables you to apply monochrome effects to your images, such as sepia or cyanotype, as well as to configure several approachable settings. Photos produced with this tool look like they're printed in a single color on white paper.
How to install and use
Setting up this extension is a fast and simple task, since there is no actual installation kit involved. Instead, you can save the downloaded DLL file to Paint.net's installed directory, more specifically in the "Effects" subfolder.
If the image editor is currently running, it's necessary to restart it to gain access to the new add-on by finalizing setup. It works with both the installer and portable versions of Paint.net. There are three separate plugins created for monochrome, grayscale and sepia filters, and they can be accessed from the "Effects" menu.
Configure monochrome, greyscale and sepia settings
The control panel of the monochrome plugin is user-friendly, showing a color wheel for picking the ink color. This can also be done by directly inputting the RGB code, provided that you have this information at hand.
This setting can be reverted to default with the click of a button. As informed by the developer, the best results are achieved by using dark colors.
The same rules apply to grayscale filter. When it comes to the sepia effect, you can adjust the intensity level by moving a slider or by entering the numerical value. Worth noting is that modifications can be previewed while making them.
Evaluation and conclusion
Although the software product hasn't received updates for a long time, Monochromes integrated with the latest edition of Paint.net without any issues in our tests. The graphic editing tool didn't hang, crash or display error messages. It can be easily used.
