MorsePlay Description

Morse code is one of the oldest forms of electronic communication and is still used today in some formats, made especially famous by the Morse code distress signal SOS. MorsePlay is a program that allows users to convert text to Morse code, as well as hear the Morse code being played.

A straightforward interface that is extremely basic, yet still functional and efficient

There is no design elements of MorsePlay that are decoration, the program operates in a basic window that is functional only and extremely spartan. The application is divided in three areas in the same window, an area to enter text, the text output area, as well as a visual representation of the actual Morse code dots and dashes.
Using MorsePlay is as simple as typing in the text field, or loading a text file into the program, then selecting the Go button. The application will then proceed to display the Morse code translation of the message while playing the sound for each part.

Several options provided by MorsePlay offer users increased versatility, yet don’t hide a major flaw

The ability to load text files into MorsePlay is already an immediate improvement over several other Morse code translators, providing far more functionality. There are settings to change the color of the Morse code, the speed and sound of the audio, as well as the size of the Morse translation.
Unfortunately, a major issue with MorsePlay that arguably cripples the application is that the Morse code generated by the program is a picture. Since the translation is produced as a picture, it cannot be copied and pasted and instead must be saved and sent as a picture. This design choice means it's impossible to send people messages in Morse code without sending an entire image file.

A well thought out program except for one oversight which drastically changes its potential

All in all, MorsePlay provides useful features and a decent level of support for users. There are not many applications that allow users to convert text files into Morse code, or play the code audibly for users. Sadly, the lack of a copy and paste compatible translation means the use for MorsePlay drastically drops, not many users will be willing to send pictures to others and then try and decipher them by sight.
