MPEG Mediator

MPEG Mediator is a lightweight and portable application that converts video files by using plugins. It offers support for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams, as well as AC3, MPEG and LPCM audio substreams.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the program files anywhere on the hard drive and run the executable file directly.
Otherwise, MPEG Mediator can be copied to a USB flash drive or other similar external unit, from where you can run it on any computer. This way, you can keep the tool in your pocket whenever you're on the move.
What's more important is that MPEG Mediator does not work with Windows Registry entries, minimizing the risk of system errors. Plus, files are not left behind on the hard disk after removing the app.
The interface of the application is represented by a standard window where you can easily navigate the menu bar to access various options. Video files can be loaded into the workspace via the file browser only, since "drag and drop" is not supported.
Aside from navigating the frames of the clip by using a slider, you can view file properties, configure plugin settings (e.g. compression, keyframe, input and output color format, multiple threads), establish the output file name and location, as well as select the audio stream.
MPEG Mediator also gives you the possibility of applying several filters to the video, whether we are talking about the aspect ratio, cropping, resizing or deinterlacing. Once all adjustments are made, you can convert all frames or just particular ones.
The program finishes a conversion task rapidly while using a low-to-moderate quantity of CPU and system memory, without burdening your computer's performance. It did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs throughout our evaluation; we haven't come across any issues. To sum it up, power users should be pleased with the features provided by MPEG Mediator, if they are looking to convert MPEG files with the help of plugins, although the utility has not been updated for a while.
