NFReader Description
Similar to RSSOwl, NFReader lets you read feeds from your favorite websites. It supports RSS, Atom and RDF feeds, and targets all types of users, regardless of their skill level.
This is a portable app, so installing NFReader is unnecessary. You can run the executable file from any location on the hard drive, USB flash drive or other similar device.
What's important to keep in mind is that NFReader does not add new entries to the Windows Registry (reducing the risk of system errors) or leave files behind on the hard drive after removing it.
The interface of the tool is clean and pretty intuitive. You can import as many feeds as you want, edit and organize them in folders and subfolders.
Adding a feed requires you to input the feed URL, caption and update interval. NFReader can also update it at program startup automatically.
When viewing feed contents, you can check out the title, date of modification and name for each item, as well as text and HTML viewing modes. This content can be exported to a TXT or HTML file. Plus, you can import and export feeds (OPML files), switch to a different language for the UI, refresh all feeds, make the frame stay on top of other windows, as well as use a search function when dealing with large amounts of data.
Plenty of settings can be configured for NFReader. For instance, you can set it to automatically run at system startup minimized to the system tray, set proxy settings, choose the highlight colors for unread items, update feeds on double-click, establish a sound file to trigger on new items, and specify the web browser to open links with, just to name a few.
We have noticed a minimal CPU and system memory consumption during NFReader's runtime. It is very responsive to commands and quickly updates feed, without slowing down the OS in the process. We have not encountered any issues in our evaluation. Thanks to its intuitive layout and features, NFReader can be seamlessly figured out by novices.
