Portable Toolwiz File Recovery

Designed as the portable counterpart of Toolwiz File Recovery, this application comes in a small package and helps users retrieve files that were previously deleted from the computer, whether they were eliminated from the Recycle Bin or by using the Shift+Delete key combination.
Unlike many similar apps in this category, this one features only essential options and excludes advanced settings, making it ideal for users with little or no previous expeirence in data recovery software.

The advantages of portable tools

As there is no installer involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run.
There is also the alternative to save Toolwiz File Recovery to a USB flash disk or other mass storage device, to be able to directly run it on any PC without installing anything.
The best part about portable utilities is that they do not create entries in the Start menu or Windows registry, nor (usually) create extra files on the PC without your consent, leaving it clean after removal.

Clean and intuitive interface

The GUI consists of a single window with a plesant structure and minimal options, where you can start the scanning procedure with the click of a button after selecting the target drive.
Scan results show all files grouped together into categories by type, namely graphics, music, video, documents, HTML and other kinds, along with the size and time of creation and last modification for each entry. All you have to do is make a selection, point out a saving directory and immediately extract the files. There's also a search function available for file names.

Evaluation and conclusion

The tool finishes a scan job in reasonable time, depending on the size of the hard disk. We have not come across any issues in our evaluation, since Toolwiz File Recovery did not freeze, crash or display errors. However, it comes packed with basic options that meet the requirements of casual users only.
