Professor Franklins Instant Photo Effects Description
Professor Franklin's Instant Photo Effects is a tool with a pretty self-explanatory name - it allows you to quickly apply some effects to your images. It supports plenty of file types, including JPG, BMP, WMF, PSD and PCX.
The app's interface is plain and uncomplicated. You can open a new picture from the hard drive by using only the file browser, since the 'drag and drop' method is not supported.
Alternatively, you can get a picture from the scanner. Unfortunately, you cannot work with multiple items at the same time.
So, you can use a magnifying glass, make the app automatically zoom on the picture, rotate and flip images, as well as add text and configure settings when it comes to the font, size, emphasis, alignment, warp effect, transparency and shadow.
In addition, you can remove the red eye effect along with dust and scratches. Color adjustments are focused on the brightness, contrast, gamma correction, color correction and focus. Plus, you can automatically balance or equalize the colors; these settings may be reset to their default values.
Furthermore, you can use a 'cookie cutter' and select a shape (e.g. triangle, star), as well as apply one of the several masks provided by Professor Franklin's Instant Photo Effects, according to their category - artistic (e.g. crayon, scribble), brushes, object (e.g. circle swirl, stamp) and texture (e.g. abrasive, ripple). Other presets revolve around frames, accents, edges and frames. It is also possible to resize images, change the background color, and use the undo function.
The program requires a high amount of system resources, has a good response time and didn't cause us any problems throughout our testing. Unfortunately, Professor Franklin's Instant Photo Effects has not been updated for a very long time; some improvements are welcomed in the visual aspect of the UI.
