Qute Description
Qute is a text editor that helps you create and edit Markdown and TeX documents, while offering support for a full screen mode and dual-panel preview mode.
Portable running mode
This is a portable program which comes with several advantages to your computer. You may run it by simply opening the executable file (there’s no setup included in the process) and copy it on any USB flash drive or other portable devices.
It does not leave traces in your Windows registry so you can get rid of it by deleting the package that you have grabbed from the Internet.
Clean feature lineup
Qute impresses with its clean GUI that gives you the possibility to focus solely on the writing process. Compared to other similar text editors that implement various functions and toolbars in the main window, this program offers support for a single small button placed in the upper corner of the left side of the working environment.
You can change the looks of the user interface using various themes (e.g. subtle dark, wood, white paper) and modify the font by selecting between a few preset options.
Preview and editing options
The application accommodates a dual panel where you can easily edit the text and preview how it looks like. In order to edit a paragraph, you need to double-click on it. When you are done with altering the document, you can double-click on the paragraph to close the editing mode.
What’s more, you can use the Markdown syntax for formatting and TeX syntax for different formulas, and work with preset hotkeys for splitting paragraphs at the current cursor position, inserting new empty paragraphs, and joining paragraphs.
Qute allows you to enable the full screen mode, import text from documents stored in your computer, copy source data to the clipboard, export formatted output to HTML file format, export data to Pandoc, and save the information to LaTeX or PDF file format (it requires Pandoc).
Bottom line
All things considered, Qute is a basic text editor that helps rookies create Markdown and TeX documents. With a few improvements here and there, it will look quite promising in the future.
