Redshift Description
Spending significant periods of time working on your computer might subject your eyes to high levels of stress, due to the brightness, contrast and light radiation from your monitor.
However, it is possible that you can counter some of these side-effects by turning to specialized software solutions, such as Redshift.
Command line application
Since this program cannot be run outside of Windows' Command Prompt, it does not feature a Graphical User Interface (GUI) nor interactive features. The lack of a GUI can be disconcerting for many users, that might find it difficult to benefit from its capabilities.
However, despite its low flexibility, it provides you with a brief description of its core functions by including the '-h' argument while executing it.
Adjust your screen temperature
Redshift enables you to adjust the brightness and temperature of your screen depending on the current time, thus reducing the harmful effects your monitor might inflict upon your eyes.
You just need to set your coordinates by either relying on an automatic location service or by inputting them manually with the '-l' argument. After doing so, the application uses the information you provided to adjust your screen temperature and brightness automatically, according to your time zone.
Can retrieve settings from an external file
Instead of manually customizing the application's parameters each time you execute it, it is also possible to create an external file that contains your desired parameters and load it from the application. Doing so is possible by including the '-c' argument along with the filename while executing the utility.
To sum it up, Redshift is a handy command line application that can automatically adjust your screen temperature and brightness based on your current location. It features no help documentation, but it allows you to access a list of its functions along with a brief explanation for each item.
