A computer can run almost for an infinity, given it stays connected to a power source, and there are no particular interventions, software or hardware to mess up runtime. Sure enough some computers run simple tasks of showing images on large displays, but you might need to monitor runtime. In this regard, RJL UpTime is able to place a counter on your desktop which shows how long it’s been active.

Lightweight and easy to use

One of the application’s main advantages is that it doesn’t even need to be installed in order to function. As such, you can take it for a spin as soon as download is done, and even store it on a thumb drive in case you want to use it on other computers besides your own. It leaves no traces, as it doesn’t need to modify or add any new registry entries.
The settings panel shows up on launch, so you define how the timer is displayed on screen. There are several sections to go through, mostly related to visuals. Time is shown either in long or short format, with the possibility to include seconds in the display as well.

Choose colors and animation style

Moreover, you can pick a custom font type to use for the timer, change its color, as well as the size of the text, which also determines the size of the display box. Unfortunately, there are no options to configure transparency, not even for the display area, which needs to be fitted with a custom color.
Some style options can also be tweaked. In this regard, you can have the timer flash with a specific color at regular intervals in seconds you configure. Rollover can be enabled, and there’s a color selection menu for this option as well. The timer can be sent to the tray area. Sadly, you can’t have a log file generated.

In conclusion

To sum it up, RJL UpTime isn’t really a tool you need for regular, everyday activities. However, it shows real-time updates, including in seconds, from the moment the PC got powered on, even if the program didn’t start with Windows.
