Series Rename Description
When users download an entire series of video files or a large collection of media, they can often have very technical file names that make them difficult to organize and identify. Series Rename is an application that enables users to rename multiple files at once and organize videos into their seasons and series.
A very simple, Java based interface that makes it quite easy to browse and select files
The Java based design of Series Rename makes it very straightforward to use and easy to navigate, presenting the files and browser tools in a clear and concise manner. The application includes several directory navigation and viewing options to change how they are presented, making users can comfortable view their own collection in the best possible way.
Series Rename does lack a multiple file option, which does limit how it is used. The program prefers to target an entire folder rather than specific files in a folder, preventing users from selecting a group of files and just renaming them. The need to structure everything into specific folders for specific seasons or shows, is a hindrance and a clear way the application could be improved.
The renaming process tries to automate itself and instead tends to be unreliable
The design of Series Rename is such that it tries to automatically rename an entire folder of files with very little input from users. The only information Series Rename supposedly requires is the series name, and the specific season the videos are from.
Unfortunately, what tends to happen is that the application generates several errors and has trouble numbering the files properly. A more controlled editing process would be more welcome, or just a simpler one that allowed users to add specific tags to a series of file names. Instead, users half a partially broken file naming system that could easily create more problems than it solves.
An interesting idea that falls short, with the application trying to do more than it can handle
The idea of a mass file editor is a useful one, being able to rapidly add key tags to an entire folder of files would make Series Rename a big help. Unfortunately, it fails at what it tries to do and would likely completely disorganize a folder than bring structure, Series Rename could be improved in a number of ways and would have to be before it has real merit.
