SGI's Free PDF Splitter is a program with a name that perfectly explains its purpose - it allows you to cut PDF documents into multiple pieces. The app can be seamlessly handled, even by inexperienced users.
The interface of the application is based on a standard window and an uncomplicated layout. You can load a PDF file by using only the file browser, since the 'drag and drop' method is unsupported.
So, all you have to do is establish the output directory and specify the number of chunks, in order to proceed with the splitting procedure.
In addition, you can make SGI's Free PDF Splitter keep the metadata, open the source file or output folder, view file properties (e.g. size, number of pages, author, subject), as well as select a file renaming method (e.g. only index number, add index number date to the filename).
The simple-to-use tool requires a low-to-moderate amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and quickly finishes a task. No error dialogs have been displayed throughout our evaluation and SGI's Free PDF Splitter did not freeze or crash; we have not come across any issues.
However, SGI's Free PDF Splitter does not offer additional splitting methods (e.g. a page range) and you cannot minimize it to the system tray area, or preview documents in a built-in viewer. No recent updates have been made.
