Shock Snap Description
Shock Snap is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you take screenshots and capture images from your favorite videos.
Interacting with the GUI
The user interface does not look highly intuitive so you need to invest extra time into decoding the program’s functions. The multi-tabbed environment allows you to open, preview, and edit different photos at the same time.
You cannot appeal to a help manual so you need to experiment with the dedicated parameters. You can rely on tooltips for viewing short descriptions about the target parameter. You just need to hover your mouse cursor over a function to view details about it.
Support for different capture modes
Shock Snap gives you the possibility to capture the selected control, window, user-defined desktop region, resizable rectangle, full screen (including support for dual monitors), video, and window icon.
You may also repeat the last capture, preview the screenshots directly in the main window, hide the program before capturing an image, delay capture, set the default output file format (JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG), automatically save the image to the clipboard or custom folder, enable sound notifications, and reassign user-defined hotkeys for activating capture modes.
Image editing features
Aside from altering the captured snapshots, you can import custom photos (e.g. GIF, JPEG, BMP, ICO, EMF, PNG) and edit them. You may also zoom in or out of images for precise editing functions.
When it comes to editing features, you are allowed to insert text messages (which can be customized in terms of font, size, color, and alignment), make use of a pen for drawing free-hand designs (you may adjust its size and color), erase unnecessary parts, fill in areas with different colors, insert rectangles and circles, highlight areas with different colors, draw lines, embed arrows, and add all sorts of stamps.
Last but not least, you can crop or resize pictures, rotate the image to different angles, apply automatic contrast adjustments, tweak contrast, brightness, and gamma values, as well as work with several special effects (mosaic, noise, grayscale, color inversion).
Final remarks and performance assessments
Shock Snap comes packed with several handy features. It provides very good output quality without eating up a lot of CPU and memory resources. However, it still needs GUI improvements in order to make the entire process more intuitive.
