Sony Ericsson SDK bundles the APIs, components and tools required in order to create compelling, functional apps compatible with Sony Ericsson devices. It is a comprehensive software development kit designed to provide assistance to developers, enabling them to put their ideas into practice.
Intended for the Java ME Platform, Sony Ericsson SDK requires Java SE Development Kit to be installed on your system, along with DirectX. It is capable of ensure forward compatibility between platform editions, supporting a wide range of phone models, including Symbian and non-Symbian devices.
The comprehensive documentation that can help you understand how to use the SDK in order to create, debug and test apps on your mobile device, providing clear instructions on how to initiate a connection and use the development tools.
Before starting, you must make sure that the Developer Mode is activated on your mobile handset and find out what Java version your phone supports. Once the device is connected to the PC and the USB drivers are installed on the computer, you must use the Connection Proxy to create a communication bridge between the PC and the phone.
Phones supporting JP-7 and earlier connect via a COM port or a USB cable, while JP-8 and later devices use the TCP/IP protocol. As such, more recent devices should be able to connect to the PC automatically, without requiring user intervention. The recognition speed depends on the available CPU and the capabilities of your phone, but in most cases it is performed within one minute.
Sony Ericsson SDK integrates on-device debugging capabilities, which can only be used with Java platforms later than 4 for non-Symbian devices and more recent than 3.5 for Symbian phones.
