Streets and Trips

Developed by Microsoft, Streets and Trips is a feature-packed software application which you can use to schedule driving routes and find out details on any location. It is helpful for business trips, family vacations or simple road trips.
The interface of the application is professional-looking and intuitive. Streets and Trips provides you with a world map where you can click any available location to add it to your route. Alternatively, you can jump to a specific place by using a search function or by inputting geographical coordinates.
So, you can create a start and end location, along with multiple stops. It is possible to get directions (similar to a GPS); this includes turns and a daily schedule with the time and distance.
These directions (along with the map) found in the route planner can be copied to the Clipboard, directly sent to your mobile phone or shown in Bing Maps. Plus, you can start GPS tracking, create a drive time zone and measure distances, as well as update the maps.
Streets and Trips comes with a wide range of configuration settings which are available through the Options screen; you can pick the distance measurement unit and coordinates type, change the map font size and style (road, terrain or political map, road map at night), enable full screen mode, and customize table columns for the directions, among others.
These settings can be saved as default for further use of Streets and Trips. In addition, it is possible to save the entire road plan to file or export it to HTML, use the undo and redo functions, zoom in and out of the map, import a GPX file, as well as configure date set properties.
The comprehensive program uses a pretty high amount of CPU and system memory, and it can take a while to complete a simple task, such as finding a new location or getting directions. Also, the app was unable to get directions for certain driving routes that we have created, since it was unsuccessful in its attempts to find road links. However, Streets and Trips includes user documentation and can be handled by individuals of all skill levels.
