Subtitle player

Subtitle player is a standalone piece of software you can use to load subtitles while watching movies, whether they are launched from a media player or a website. This way, you can read subtitles even when they aren't supported by the desktop application or embedded in YouTube clips.

No setup required, besides .NET Framework

The full software package consists of just one .exe file that can be saved on the local disk or stored on an external storage unit to effortlessly launch Subtitle player on any PC.
It doesn't insert new entries into the system registry or create other files on the disk without your consent. However, you should make sure to get .NET Framework unless you already have it, as the program cannot work without this software framework.

Play subtitles over movies

The interface of this application is made of a semi-transparent window that shows four commands by default. You can open SRT-formatted subtitles by resorting to the built-in file browser, and sync it to a currently playing video.
Moreover, you can switch to fullscreen mode as well as increase or decrease the font size. It's also possible to seek time (right and left arrow keys), and pause and resume playback (spacebar). The frame stays on top of other windows.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't come across any issues in our tests, since the app didn't hang, crash or prompt errors. It left minimal traces on system resources, since it needed a low amount of memory and CPU. Although it hasn't been updated for long, it didn't have compatibility problems with the latest version of Windows in our evaluation.
To sum it up, Subtitle player may not be the most resourceful application out there, but it offers a straightforward solution for playing SRT subtitles on movies loaded from any source.
