Suspension Calculator Description
The Internet is filled with all sort of nice applications that you could use to make your job easier and save some time. One of such software solutions is Suspension Calculator.
It's a nice tool for race car engineers, as it allows them to perform suspension related calculations, including motion ratios, spring stiffness, wheel loads and more.
Lightweight graphical interface with many tools
The application doesn't take long to install and it doesn't have a complicated setup that you would need to complete before you can actually use it. It sports a really lightweight graphical interface with plenty of tools at hand and nice layout.
Suspension Calculator launches with a tutorial and some instructions, showing you all the neat calculations that you can perform inside the application. It has five main sections that you can check out.
Perform all sort of calculations
It comes with the option to calculate CoG location. Centre of Gravity (CoG) is a key parameter in determining a vehicles performance and is needed for many of the calculations throughout this application.
For this reason the program includes three windows to assist with calculating these values. This window will calculate its Z-location relative to the front and rear wheel axis, as well as its X-location relative to the vehicle centreline.
You can also calculate the load transfer on the front and rear wheels due to longitudinal acceleration or braking or the required spring stiffness of each of the two springs, their effective stiffness and their maximum displacements.
More features and tools
You can also calculate the required ‘anti-roll bar roll rate’ to achieve an overall ‘desired roll rate’. The application performs the calculation for both a front and a rear located anti-roll bar, but only for one at a time.
You then need to specify an anti-roll bar that has this roll rate the ‘anti-roll bar properties’ window should be used. You can also use controls in order to test the data you've inputted and it comes with graphs for each of the calculations that you've made.
All in all, Suspension Calculator is a very nice application that allows you to perform all sort of calculations, check information and test data easily.
