System Shutdown Vista Gadget is a lightweight and simple-to-use app which allows you to quickly activate a power management function directly from your desktop. It can be seamlessly installed and configured, even by inexperienced users.
The interface is based on a small frame which you can move to any position on the screen, with the help of the mouse cursor.
So, you can either lock, restart or turn off the workstation by pressing one of the three buttons. Unfortunately, System Shutdown Vista Gadget does not come with any configurable settings of its own.
However, thanks to the operating system, you can open the right-click menu, in order to alter some properties. So, you can make the frame stay on top of other windows, as well as adjust its opacity level between 20% and 100%.
The small tool does not put a strain on the computer's resources, since it runs on a very low quantity of CPU and system memory. It is very responsive to commands and worked smoothly during our tests, without causing Windows to freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs.
All in all, System Shutdown Vista Gadget provides a straightforward solution for locking, restarting or powering off the computer. Too bad its features cannot be customized. But we must take into account the fact that the gadget has not been updated for a long time.
