Task Viewer Description

Task Viewer is a lightweight and portable application that shows the currently running programs on the computer, giving you the possibility to analyze their information, as well as to terminate or switch to their process. It features intuitive options for users who find the Windows Task Manager too advanced.

Portable app with a plain GUI

The whole tool's wrapped in a single .exe file that can be copied to a preferred directory on the disk or on a removable storage device, in order to launch it effortlessly, without previous setup or DLLs. No modifications are made to the Windows registry, and no additional files are created on the disk without your permission.
As for the interface, Task Viewer is packed in a standard window with a simple appearance, which doesn't put emphasis on the graphical elements. However, its layout and options are easy to explore.

Analyze and control active processes

The actual processes are displayed automatically at startup, so you can examine their names, companies, descriptions, paths and filenames. Meanwhile, the status bar reveals the name of the logged on user, computer name, memory used, total processes, and system uptime.
By opening the right-click menu of a selected entry, it's possible to switch to a process or shut it down, refresh all shown details, as well as display the program versions and IDs, or hide any of the previously mentioned columns.
Furthermore, you can start the Windows screensaver from this utility's menu, minimize all windows to the taskbar, as well as restart, power off or log off of the workstation.

Evaluation and conclusion

It contains a light set of features for beginners who want to get familiarized with a task manager; it's not suitable for expert users. No error dialogs popped up in our tests, and Task Viewer didn't hang or crash.
