TED Grabber Description
TED Grabber is a lightweight and portable application that downloads video subtitles from TED.com. Contrary to what its name may imply, it does not fetch videos. The tool comes in handy whenver you want to download subtitles from foreign videos for translation purposes.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the executable file somewhere on the hard disk and click it to run.
It is also possible to save TED Grabber to a pen drive or external hard drive, in order to run it on any machine without previous installers.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry is not updated with new entries.
The interface is represented by a regular window divided into four panes. So, you can write the TED video URL or ID number, and click a button to donwload subtitles. Information is delivered to a plain text document (TXT format) saved in the same location as the program.
An automatic downloading mode is available for triggering multiple tasks at a time, especially if you plan to leave the workstation unattended. All you have to do is add video IDs manually, or create an ID range by specifying the minimum and maximum value. Last but not least, you can set the subtitle language to English, Persian, or something else.
TED Grabber carries out a task rapidly. It has a good response time and uses a barely noticeable amount of CPU and RAM, so it doesn't slow down overall performance or interrupt normal user activity. No error messages were displayed throughout our evaluation, and the tool did not hang or crash. All in all, TED Grabber serves its purpose.
