Narayana Maharajas parents were Vaisnava brahmanas and from early childhood he showed great enthusiasm for spiritual topics. He received initiation from his guru, Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami, on Gaura purnima, the appearance day of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, in 1947 and was initiated into the sannyasa order, the renounced order of life, seven years later.
