Underline Description
Certain presentations require bits of text to be highlighted in order to emphasize an idea or help you remember important parts. This can be done by changing the color of the text. An alternative is to put specialized applications like Underline to good use. It provides an area that lets you emphasize nearly anything of need.
Straightforward with limited features
The application's core function is to allow you to put nearly anything of interest under the spotlight. Running it brings up a customizable area you can easily drag around your desktop over desired elements.
Resizing is done by stretching the edges so you can carefully adjust the area to only include what needs to be emphasized. The options menu gives you access to several customization options. Color can be set, but you can only choose from a few presets. Transparency can also be adjusted, as well as movement options.
Work with a single emphasis area
Unfortunately, there is nothing else the application puts at your disposal. The given window always stays on top of other applications, with no possibility to disable this feature.
Moreover, only one instance of the application can be active and there is no possibility to bring up more areas in order to simultaneously highlight different items. Furthermore, hotkey support is not implemented, which makes it even less practical, even though it gets minimized to the system tray.
To end with
All in all, the concept behind the project is neat, but the poor design and incredibly limited amount of features make Underline an application that certainly leaves a lot more to be desired. It only serves a purpose if you want to add a shade of one of the provided colors to your desktop.
