Unglass

Unglass is a lightweight application, designed for Window 7, that removes the transparency of the title bar, borders and taskbar whenever you maximize a window. The purpose of the application is to remove the glass effect of these elements, in Windows 7, which is still maintained in window mode.

Maximized windows with opaque borders

Windows 7 allows you to customize the appearance of the taskbar and the window borders for applications, opened files or folders. You may manually disable the glass effect from the Control Panel, however, Unglass offers a quicker way to temporarily removing this effect. Simply run the application, then you can notice how the borders of a window turn completely opaque when in fullscreen mode.
Moreover, the taskbar also turns opaque, but returns to its original state when you minimize the window or reduce its size. Both the taskbar and the window borders return to their original state when no longer in maximized mode.

No interface to exit or customize the application

Unglass does not require installation, since it is a portable application, and does not feature an interface. While the software performs the task as soon as you open it, it does not allow you to also change the color of the bars. In order to do that, you still need to access Control Panel. Moreover, it is recommended that you do not run Unglass while other Windows animations are active, since it might not perform its task.
Since it features no interface, in order to exit Unglass, you need to end the process from the Windows Task Manager.

Transparency effect turned on and off

The purpose of Unglass is to bring the transparency loss Windows Vista feature to Windows 7. Thus, whenever a window is maximized/switched to fullscreen, the title bar, borders and taskbar turn from semi-transparent to completely opaque. Unlike switching the transparency off from Control Panel, with Unglass, the glass effect is maintained when the windows are minimized.
