Version Edit Description
Version Edit is a lightweight piece of software designed to help you open, edit and save the information of PE files. It offers support for .exe, .dll, .ocx, .scr and .res format.
Installer and portable edition
You are given the possibility to either install Version Edit or just set up a portable edition in a custom directory of the disk that will contain all its configuration files. The key difference is that the portable version can be saved to a removable storage unit to directly launch it on any other computer to modify PE files.
Straightforward interface and options
The GUI is made from a normal window with a classical-looking structure that provides direct access to all available settings. Once you point out a PE file, you can edit the file and product version number, major and minor edition, build, and release.
What's more, you can assign module attributes such as debug build or special build, pre-release or private build, select the file OS, type and subtype along with the language locale ID and code page, as well as alter the company name, file description, and legal copyright. Once all modifications are made, you can save the file as PE or a resource.
Evaluation and conclusion
There were no kind of stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that Version Edit didn't hang, crash or pop up error messages. It had minimal impact on the overall performance of the computer, using low CPU and memory. Thanks to its intuitive interface and options, Version Edit can be handled by any type of users looking to edit Windows PE files.
