Visual Trace Route Description
Visual Trace Route is a very simple utility designed to replace the standard Windows trace route tool and provide some extra information through a clean and well-organized interface.
There's nothing too difficult about Visual Trace Route and it takes just a few seconds to figure out how to use the application because there's no configuration screen or any other menu available.
Visual Trace Route thus boasts just a single window that lets you write down the host or the IP, select the maximum hoops and the time out and that's basically it. All you need to do next is to press the “Start†button and wait for Visual Trace Route to display the route from your computer to the user-defined host.
The application indeed traces the route and shows the IP address and the hostname, alongside time to complete the request, TTL and time chart.
As you can see, the program is pretty basic but even so, developers have included a help manual as well, just in case beginners may need assistance while using their application.
Unfortunately, there seem to be some compatibility issues with Windows 7, even when started with administrator privileges. While the help manual doesn't launch, the application sometimes becomes unresponsive and needs a few seconds to return to the normal state.
All in all, Visual Trace Route is indeed a handy utility that has what it takes to replace the standard trace route tool everybody is using these days. Still, it needs some major improvements in many key areas to become a top product in this particular software segment.
