WExplorer Description
WExplorer is a feather-light and portable program whose purpose is to replace Windows Explorer. It lets you navigate disk directories seamlessly and use a search function, among others.
Portability advantages
As there is no setup involved, you can save the app directory in any part of the disk and just click the executable to launch WExplorer. An alternative is to move it to a USB flash drive to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort. It doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving no traces behind after removal.
Familiar interface and intuitive options
Just like Windows Explorer, the interface of WExplorer is represented by a large frame split into two panes: a tree view and a file browser.
You can use a quick search function for the current directory, copy, paste, delete and rename files, view file properties, send them to a fax recipient or Notepad by opening the right-click menu, read the folder size to obtain a pie chart of the files' distribution, launch a Command Prompt dialog in the current location, as well as create new files and folders.
Furthermore, the application implements options for previewing images and changing the measurement unit for file size display. There are no other notable options available here.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't come across any stability difficulties in our tests, thanks to the fact that WExplorer didn't freeze, crash or prompt error notifications. It didn't put a strain on the PC's performance either, since it used low CPU and RAM.
However, given its limited features and seemingly outdated interface, WExplorer seems like an unfinished project that cannot compete with Windows Explorer. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free.
