Words is a tool designed to help you improve your English vocabulary. The application is useful if you're preparing for Graduate Record Examination, GMAT, SAT or any other vocabulary-intensive examinations.

Neatly structured layout

The downloaded package can be unzipped to directly launch Words, provided that you have Java installed.
It is straightforward and accessible for everyone, the commands are easy to learn, and the interface is clear-cut.

Test your knowledge

The program asks you a series of multiple-choice questions and, in order to select an answer, you simply have to click on its number. You can jump to the next word or give up to find out the correct answer provided by the tool.
To mark a term as mastered and hide it from future tests, you can press the default key. All your changes are saved in TXT format in the “.words” folder inside the program directory.

Useful extra options

It offers several practice sets to work with, which are available by default. Any categories that you add are automatically listed in this menu. When a practice set runs out of words, for example when you master all the words from it, it is disabled.
You can test all of them or select one from the list such as easy, difficult, clever, happy, sticky, or all words starting with A and ending with Z. It is capable of resetting the test count as well as the amount of mastered words.
The program helps you to track your progress and gives you a grade (from D to A++), depending on the number of words you have mastered. Furthermore, it has a built-in dictionary you can use to learn new words together with pronounciation, multiple meanings, synonyms, and the section they belong to. Plus, you can challenge yourself by playing the integrated Hangman game.
