xDir Description
xDir is a simple program designed to display file properties in a command-line environment, such as the company name, file description, internal name, legal copyright, and original file name. It can be handled by those familiarized with Command Prompt or another console application.
Doesn't require installation
The tool is portable, which means that installation isn't required. Instead, it's wrapped in a single .exe file that can be saved anywhere on the disk or copied to a USB flash drive to seamlessly launch it on any PC without setup. It doesn't change Windows registry settings or produce additional files on the disk without letting you know about it.
View file properties in a Command Prompt window
To use this tool, you have to call its process from a Command Prompt dialog. If you write the file name and extension without any other arguments, the tool lists the name and extension of all files in its directory, as well as the company name, file description and file version of each item, wherever this information exists.
View company name, file description, and other details
The syntax is xDir.exe [[path] [/c] [/d] [/i] [/l] [/o] [/p] [/r] [/v] [/f:name] [/s] [t] [/x]. Therefore it's possible to write the full path to any directory whose containing files you want to analyze, as well as pick the type of file properties to display in the console window when it comes to the company name (/c), file description (/d), internal file name (/i), legal copyright (/l), original file name (/o), product name (/p), product version (/r), and file version (/v).
Resourceful file analyzer with CMD support
Moreover, you can ask the tool to filter files by showing only those matching a specific company name (/f:name), include subfolders (/s), use Tab as the string separator instead of double Space (/t), and hide files that don't contain any file properties. The help section can be reviewed with the /? or /h switch.
All aspects considered, xDir is a resourceful piece of software that can help you view various file properties in the console environment. It had minimal impact on the computer's performance in our tests and worked smoothly on Windows 10.
