XFOIL Description

XFOIL provides professionals within the aerodynamic field of work with an application software capable of lending a helping hand in both the design process as well as the analysis procedure. With XFOIL, you can rely on a set of multiple features and functions to help you quickly and easily perform various activities regarding subsonic airfoils.
First things first, airfoils represent the cross-section view of blades or wings and even sails. A moving wing through air produces an air and passes above as well as below the wing. The superior area of the wing is built so the air rushing over the top expedites and stretches out, thus decreasing the pressure of the air atop the wing. The air flowing below the wing moves in a straighter line, so its speed and air pressure remain identically tantamount.
As for subsonic isolated airfoils, the speciality of the XFOIL computer program, the airfoils for airplanes that fly with speed under the one of the sound (1 Mach or less than 761 mph), they are typically different from the supersonic ones for more than just one reason. As the forces of aerodynamics are the moment, the lift, the thrust, the drag and the gravity, one must take into consideration the whole ensemble.
Overall, XFOIL delivers the right set of tools to help you perform analysis of inviscid (viscous) airfoils, design of airfoils with integrated distribution of surface speed as well as redesign through geometric parameters, airfoil blending, airfoil coordinate writing and reading or even geometry, pressure distribution and multiple polars plotting. If these are everything you need, then XFOIL was especially tailored for you.
