ActMon Write All Stored Passwords (WASP) Description

Those who use Windows for Workgroups surely know about password caching, a handy feature that creates a list with all the passwords you use on a regular basis, along with the apps they correspond to.
This way, you can easily restore your previous connections to any shared data whenever you initiate a new session, as the correct password is automatically retrieved and applied.
All these passphrases are stored in a password list file (PWL) that is typically encrypted, so that no unauthorized people can access its contents.
However, if you want to open such a file you can rely on specialized applications, such as ActMon Write All Stored Passwords (WASP).
Due to this utility, all the passwords of the currently logged in user are displayed, provided they are stored in the aforementioned PWL file. Once the data is analyzed, a detailed list is generated, presenting the information sorted in three tabs, to ensure it is easily managed: ‘Web only’, ‘Dial-Up only’ and ‘All others’.
It needs to be emphasized that the PWL file contains standard categories, namely resource name and resource password, yet not all applications on your computer interpret this data the same same, meaning that these fields might display different details than the expected one.
As previously mentioned, ActMon Write All Stored Passwords (WASP) can be used to analyze the info stored in PWL files, so you cannot rely on it to remove an entry. In order to do this, you need to access the app that stores the password in the first place and uncheck the box for saving the credentials - this should also result in removing the password from the PWL database.
All in all, ActMon Write All Stored Passwords (WASP) can be handy to all those who want to examine their stored passwords. The only downside of this application is that it only runs on Win 95, Win 98 and Win ME.
