Dir 2 File

Dir 2 File is a simple application that lets you create an index of all files and subfolders contained by a directory, and save it to file for further evaluation.
It supports the ASP, HTML, CSV, XLS and TXT format for the output. You can use it to keep track of important files by organizing a listing in the simplest way possible.
Users are advised that Dir 2 File has not been updated for a very long time, and it is highly likely that stability issues will occur. We have tested this tool on both Windows 7 and XP, and experienced some problems.
Administrative rights are required to run Dir 2 File. The interface consists of an Explorer-based folder structure that gives you fast access to your directories.
In order to export all items contained in a folder, all you have to do is specify the output destination, file name and format. The HTML option comes with a few settings - they let you select the background and text color, font name and size, as well as the color for links.
The resulted file includes a few details concerning each item, namely the name, size, path, short path and type (file or folder). More specifically, these are the properties shown in the main window.
Other options of Dir 2 File let you create a new folder in the current location, delete or rename items, and change the viewing mode. There is also a backup feature available, but we were unsuccessful in testing it (Dir 2 File immediately crashed every time we attempted to run it).
Dir 2 File is very light on the system resources. It would have proven to be a reliable app for indexing files and folders, if it weren't for the stability issues we have encountered. Nevertheless, users of any levels of experience are free to test Dir 2 File for themselves.
