For those who work with computers on a regular basis, managing file size is important, otherwise computers can become slow and unresponsive. Folder Sizes is an application that allows users to scan directories or folders, displaying the size of every folder and subfolder within the scan, as well as additional file information.

An extremely basic interface that is based around the scan results and functionality

The design of Folder Sizes is quite dated, instead of it proper application interface, it operates more like a standard program window with only a few extra features. There are only a few extra buttons on the main window, some of which are not relevant to the function either, such as the Help and Exit button.
Users can select the drive or folder location in the directory browser at the top of the Folder Sizes, with the option to begin a scan. When users begin scanning, the application operates in the background, but allows users to browse previous scan results.

A minimal amount of features and additional options that limits the viability of the program

While Folder Sizes works well at what it does, there is a lack of supporting features, as well as a few standard settings that are slightly awkward and unnecessary. For instance, when users first open Folder Sizes, it automatically begins scanning what users were looking at last, which is slightly awkward and inconvenient.
There are some additional options that it could have, but doesn’t, such as the ability to organize the folders and files in order of size, something that seems prudent given the nature of Folder Sizes. It would make it much easier to delete various files or manage a system.

A useful application that serves a purpose, yet could be made a bit more efficient

The design of Folder Sizes leaves a lot to be desired and it could be improved in a number of ways, that functionality must always be considered design. Folder Sizes handles its main purpose perfectly fine and should satisfy most users in how it organizes and assess the size of folders and files, while it could be better, it is certainly a reliable tool.
