Free Ringtone Maker Description
Given how phones have become personal computers in recent years, nearly everyone carries a phone advanced enough to play music. Being able to customize a phone is considered a must for many people, yet being able to customize a song to make it more unique is less readily available. Free Ringtone Maker allows users to take an existing song and edit it into their own personal ringtone, with various editing options available.
More of an editor than a creator, Free Ringtone Maker requires an existing song and presents few options
The name of this application is a bit misleading, the ability to actually create a ringtone is more of an exaggeration compared to what it actually does. Free Ringtone Maker edits existing ringtones and offers users a chance to put their personal stamp on their own ringtone, rather than create a truly new ringtone.
The application primarily offers users a way to trim away the start or end of a particular song, as well as add a fade in / out option. The only other feature available is the ability to increase the volume of a song to over 200% louder. These limited options allow users to perform some editing, but not enough to change a song, skipping the intro seems to be its primary use.
A simplistic design that can be unclear, with obvious room for improvement
The application presents its trimming options and increase volume options in the form of separate sliders, though using the sliders accurately is awkward, especially the volume slider. The volume slider in particularly seems incapable of adding volume to only a specific part, and instead just makes the remains of what you edit louder. The ability to only support two formats - MP3 and WAV - seems limited also.
A way to splice separate songs together, increase the volume to only a specific part, a wavelength view of the audio and the ability to add sound effects would all improve the application. Additionally, a better editing tool than a slider is needed, users can only select a specific section of a song. Users cannot connect two separate parts of the same song into a ringtone, an easy feature to add with perhaps two sliders instead of one.
A simplistic audio editor masquerading as a ringtone maker, with few options to justify its name
Unfortunately, the application is a very, very basic audio editor that only supports two audio formats. Being able to trim a dull intro from an otherwise exciting song is useful, but there are other audio editors that can do far more. Free Ringtone Maker will sadly leave most users disappointed and dissatisfied.
