gif2apng

gif2apng is a simple-to-use application that enables you to create animated PNG images from GIF animations. It doesn't require installation and lets you pick the compression mode.

No setup necessary

The entire program's wrapped in a single file that you can save anywhere on the disk and just double-click to launch gif2apng. Another possibility is to keep it stored on a USB flash drive to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
It doesn't need any DLLs to run, add new entries to the Windows registry, or create files on the disk without asking for your permission.

Simple GUI for creating animated PNGs

It's packed in a simple interface made from a small panel with a clear-cut structure, where you can use the file browser to locate the GIF animation as well as specify the output directory and filename for the new animated PNG.
Before proceeding with the operation, you can pick the compression method between zlb, 7ip and 7opfli. For the last two options it's possible to set the number of interactions. Moreover, you can optimize the color palette. On task completion, you can open the new picture to check the quality.

Evaluation and conclusion

Conversion jobs were carried out fast in our tests while the tool remained light on system resources consumption, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, as it didn't freeze, crash or prompt error messages.
Too bad that it doesn't offer support for batch processing, in order to convert multiple images at the same time. Nevertheless, gif2apng offers an effective solution for turning animated GIFs into animated PNGs, and it can be easily used.
