µHash Description
Behind the well-functioning of files, and programs lie solid lines of code. More precisely, some particular types of code can be used to verify the integrity of files, or check similarities, which is the case with hash code. To help in this regard, µHash comes with an intuitive environment, and possibility to process multiple files at a time.
Perks of portability, and visual design
One of the application’s main advantages is that it doesn’t have to be installed on your computer for it to work, which means it can be carried, and used directly from a thumb drive. Since target files are only read, there’s no need to worry about the health status of the target PC, because registry entries remain intact.
With the main window up, all that’s left to do is to drop files over any window space to get them ready. All file types are supported, since every file is fitted with a hash code. Hitting start doesn’t take a lot of time to generate results, but this mostly depends on the type, and number of loaded items.
Batch processing, and comparison tools
Results are neatly displayed next to the file name, and size. There’s the possibility to have it sent to clipboard, but keep in mind that the file name is also copied. Additionally, an MD5 file can be saved for later use. This comes in handy because the application comes with an extra verification tool based on an existing MD5 file.
Sadly, MD5 is the only hash algorithm available. However, it’s commonly used, and doesn’t really represent an issue. Other extra tools allow you to convert custom text strings to hash code. Last but not least, files can be compared to an existing code, besides imported from an MD5 to check its integrity.
On an ending note
To sum it up, µHash comes with an intuitive environment, which help perform file verification task on multiple items at a time. Although there’s only one supported algorithm, it’s pretty popular, while the rest of the features, and extra tools are sure to make it worth your while.
