MD5File Description
Calculating and comparing the MD5 hash of files can tell you if they have identical structure, even if they have different file names or timestamps.
Calculate MD5 hashes to check file integrity
Many file hosting websites show the alphanumerical values of the files in MD5 format. When downloading a file, you can calculate its checksum and match it against the one from the website. If the values are different, it could mean that the download is incomplete or the pack is with malware.
Command-line MD5 checksum calculator
MD5File is a simple command-line application that can determine the MD5 checksum of any file, regardless of its type or size. It can be used in a Command Prompt window, since it doesn't come wrapped in a graphical interface.
The syntax is as straightforward as it gets: md5 file , so you just have to enter the name and format of the file to immediately calculate its MD5 value.
Cannot process multiple files at once
Note that this only works of the file is in the same directory as MD5File. Otherwise, you have to write its path too. Unfortunately, the developer hasn't implemented options for calculating the MD5 values of multiple files at the same time. Therefore, if you wish to determine the hash of numerous files, it's going to take a while.
Copy MD5 hashes to the Clipboard
Although there is no command available for saving the displayed information to file, you can copy the file name and its corresponding MD5 signature with your mouse and press Enter to send it to the Clipboard, so you can then paste it in a text editor and save the document to file.
Simple MD5 calculator
To sum it up, MD5File delivers a fast and simple method for calculating MD5 file hashes. However, it doesn't have too many options that would've increased its appeal.
