Pinger Description
Pinger is a lightweight and portable piece of software which enables you to ping one or multiple URLs at the same time to verify their validity. It does not come packed with complex options or configuration settings, making it suitable for all types of users, regardless of their level of experience.
Portability advantages
Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the program files to any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to launch the program.
Another possibility is to save Pinger to a USB flash disk or other removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
An important aspect worth taking into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, thus leaving no traces behind after removal.
Simple interface and options
The GUI is based on a regular window with a plain and simple structure, where you can open a pinger services list (plain text document) using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop method is not supported.
So, you can select the number of threads by moving a slider (ranging from 1 to 500), as well as specify the URLs to ping, whether they are written on the spot or imported from file. The status can be checked on the bottom part of the screen.
Evaluation and conclusion
The tool did not hang, crash or pop up error messages in our tests. It takes reasonable time to finish a scan job and uses low CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the PC's overall performance. All in all, Pinger serves its purpose and can be quickly figured out, thanks to its intuitive interface and options.
