Porter Description
Porter is a small-sized and portable Windows network app, designed to help users redirect TCP connections for any local port to a remote one.
It does not include a complicated configuration set, so it can be used even by those less experienced in network utilities.
Since installation is not required, you can put the executable item in any location on the hard disk and just click it to run.
The other option is to save Porter to a USB flash disk or other mass storage device, to be able to run it on any PC seamlessly, without installing anything beforehand.
What's worth mentioning is that the tool does not add new entries to the Start menu or Windows registry, leaving the disk clean after removing it.
With a simple interface made from a single window with a clear-cut structure, users may set up port parameters when it comes to the source (local computer) and output (remote machine, by writing its host name or IP address). The Windows Firewall should be granted permission for Porter. Deactivating the network tool is done with the click of a button.
The app does not put a strain on computer resources, as it uses low CPU and RAM. It is very responsive to commands and works smoothly, without causing the OS to hang, crash or display error dialogs. Moreover, it can be minimized to the taskbar to become non-intrusive. Unfortunately, it does not integrate an option for minimizing to the system tray.
In a nutshell, Porter is a straightforward piece of software with one purpose in mind: to redirect connections from a local to a remote port, and it gets the job done. However, it has not been updated for a very long time.
