Prevent Deletion

Prevent Deletion is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help you prevent the accidental deletion of files and folders from your computer. The utility is able to automatically monitor custom files and folders, detect when the items are no longer present in the current location, and copy the missing data.

Portable running mode

You can run the program on your system by opening the executable file (there’s no installation included in the process). What’s more, you can store it on USB flash drives or other devices to carry it with you all the time, and uninstall it using a quick deletion task.

You are welcomed by a plain and straightforward GUI that gathers all options into a single panel. There’s no support for a help manual included in the package but you can decode the configuration parameters on your own because they look intuitive.

Prevent Deletion gives you the possibility to specify the target file or directory that is automatically monitored. Plus, you can provide the destination path where the files are copied. What’s more, you can make the application automatically check if the files and directories are missing at a user-defined time in seconds, and stop the process anytime.
Tests have shown that Prevent Deletion does not eat up a lot of CPU and memory resources so the overall performance of the computer is not hampered.

All things considered, Prevent Deletion delivers nothing more than a simplistic approach for helping you prevent items from being deleted from your system. The only problem is that the application has not been updated for a long time so it may cause compatibility issues on newer operating systems. For example, on Windows 8.1 Pro it failed into detecting new folders created on the desktop so it needs functionality improvements.
