PunchiTouch Description

Nowadays the computer is a pretty powerful multifunctional tool, and you can even use it to create music without the need of instruments. There are an abundance of specialized applications which can mimic different types of sounds. In this regard, PunchiTouch wants to place an interactive set of drums on your desktop.

Multiple interactive drum pads

On the bright side of things, the application doesn’t come packed inside an installer, so it’s easy to have it stored and carried around on a thumb drive, thus letting you hit those drums from nearly any computer. Registry entries are not modified, so the health status of the computer you use it on remains intact.
Since it can be launched directly after download, the window shows up in a couple of seconds. Six different pads are at your disposal, and you can start interacting right away. The title bar provides quick access the documentation menu, which isn’t really abundant, but makes sure you understand how to interact with the pads.

No recording or mixing options

Apart from using the mouse, the application also comes with hotkey support. Each pad responds to a particular keyboard button, but these can’t be changed. However, the default key configuration is intuitive enough, and doesn’t pose any accommodation problems.
Unfortunately, there’s some degree of inconsistency when it comes to audio feedback. Although each pad emits a different sound, trying to create a sequential beat might overlap the last one, or even cancel it altogether. What’s more, there are no options to record, or at least have one or a couple of sounds emitted automatically.

In conclusion

All things considered, we can state that PunchiTouch comes with good intentions, but it feels a little rough around the edges overall, especially given the audio inconsistencies. Despite the clean, intuitive design, the number of audio effects is pretty poor, and recording needs to be done with extra tools.
