Red Eye Quick Fix is a feather-light Paint.net extension that gives you the possibility to remove the red eye effect from photographs. It can be easily handled not only by expert users, but also by those just starting to get to know this advanced graphic editing utility.
This type of effect is among the most common issues found in pictures taken with a flash in ambient low light. It affects the eye pupils, making them seem red.

Easy integration with Paint.net

Setting up the plugin is a very simple task, since all you have to do is copy the downloaded DLL file to the "Effects" folder of Paint.net. It works with both the installer and portable versions of the application. If it was launched prior to taking this step, you have to restart it.

Remove red eye and preview changes

From this point on, you can access Red Eye Quick Fix from the "Effects" menu after loading an image. The pupils of the people in the photograph are automatically identified and you can enhance or decrease the threshold by moving a slider, enter the numerical value which represents the threshold level, or click on two buttons to increase or reduce this number. It can be reset to default.
Another aspect worth noting is that the modifications can be previewed while tinkering with the threshold, so there's no need to commit changes to be able to check results and undo your action or delete the second layer if you're not satisfied with the outcome.

Evaluation and conclusion

Although Red Eye Quick Fix hasn't been updated for a considerable amount of time, we haven't come across any compatibility issues with the most recent edition of Paint.net in our tests. It didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages.
