One valid alternative to other, more feature-packed and popular note-taking apps goes by the name of Skrifa. In just a few words, Skrifa is an interesting Electron-based app that aims to provide you with a smooth balance between note-taking and word-processing features.
Before anything, it is quite relevant to point out that, sadly, Skrifa is only available as Windows and macOS apps, as well as a Chrome extension. This said, if you can get passed the lack of mobile clients, you can proceed with the installation.

User-friendly note-taking application

Deploying the app is a very straightforward and hassle-free procedure but, bear in mind that full system rights are required in order to kickstart the installer. Once launched, you are required to create a new encryption passphrase and log in using your official Skrifa credentials.
You are soon greeted by the app's clean and modern-looking interface. It should not take too long until it becomes evident that Skrifa is all about simplicity. To get started, create a new notebook and start adding new notes or import already existing ones from Markdown, Word, and simple text documents.

Store, edit, share and backup your notes

Evidently, both notebooks and the actual notes can be later edited. The note editing section is quite intuitive, with the tools right on display. There's a left-sided tool panel that offers quick access to some basic text editing tools, and it also allows you to choose from several header styles,  and to insert tables or other sorts of media content.
What's more, the application provides you with the possibility to edit HTML code, view, print, share, backup and restore notes, as well as export them to Markdown and typical Skrifa format. It's also worth pointing out that, from the Settings section, you can choose the image compression threshold and make the app more suitable for poorly lit environments by taking advantage of its dark UI theme.

All in all, if you are looking for a simple, modern-looking and efficient note-taking utility that also encrypts your notes but does not feature companion apps for mobile platforms, then you should definitely give Skrifa a quick spin.
