Before specialized apps were developed to store such details, we used to search for someone in the Yellow Pages, either by its name or address. It was most of the time time-consuming and frustrating, as besides the large volume, it was also heavy.

Easy-to-use layout and installation required

Nowadays, we can choose a virtual phonebook that it's suitable for us, with more or fewer options, based on our preferences. TabPhones falls in the basic category, as it comes lightweight, without unnecessary add-ons.
There is no setup involved, as the tool comes packed with all the essential items in a single folder. All you have to do is run it and take it for a test. Due to its portability, it can also be dropped on an external drive and launched on any computer.

Simple insertion process with minimum effort

It's wrapped in an outdated yet user-friendly interface with all the alphabet letters neatly organized in ascending order, and it includes various custom characters, located at the bottom of the window. The file list occupies the middle area, along with a basic context menu.
To add a new entry, just right-click on the table, and fill in the required fields, like full name, different mobile phones, email, address, and webpage. Unfortunately, there is no choice to insert a representative image.

Use connected phones to make calls

If you wish to call someone using the built-in dialer, you need to have a connection to a modem or telephone device, which you can choose from the options.
A separate panel is brought up, where the app lets you type the number, and manage your speed dials. Sadly, the utility doesn't offer the option to export the records to XLS or CSV file formats or protect it with a password, to keep it away from being accessed.

The bottom line

Taking everything into account, TabPhones is a standard and plain application that comes in handy especially for novices or those who just want a simple tool to store various contacts. Thanks to its portability, the program doesn't leave traces after deletion, nor occupies too much space on the drive.
