TACACS.net Description
Network administrators who prefer to manage their network devices such as routers, switches or firewalls could require a solution for providing separated authentication, authorization and accounting services.
TACACS.net is an application that was designed in order to help users delimitate the authentication process from the authorization, by turning their PCs into TACACS+ servers.
TACACS.net will resolve issues which span when multiple administrators log on the same time, by checking the logged commands against an authorized list of commands for each user / group. Based upon the different users, network devices, location or time, the application is then able to develop specific policies.
Being accessible through the command line editor, the application will require some prior configuration steps, which are covered very well in the provided documentation. Users will be able to edit the XMP configuration files that contain the details for the authentication, authorization and clients.
Test users can be created by editing the configuration files and the utility allows users to perform a verification prior to the actual testing. In its deployment directory, one will find four executables that are responsible with the verification, testing and actual network actions.
Being integrated in the RFC 1492 and IEFT drafts means that the TACACS+ protocol is not proprietary and therefore allowing the application to maintain a good interoperability.System requirements1 GHz CPU.
