Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility Description
Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility is a comprehensive and effective software solution especially designed for users who need to restore backups performed on older operating systems such as Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 to computers that are currently running Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (sometimes abbreviated as ‘Win2k8’ or ‘W2k8’).
Since the built-in backup application, entitled NT Backup, has been replaced in Windows Vista with other programs able to backup files to tape, ZIP drives, floppy disks and hard drives, the *.bkf files were no longer recognized in Windows Vista. This way, dedicated programs were extremely necessary mostly by users who needed to read and restore older backups and here is where Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility comes in handy.
However, before using this application, you must also enable the ‘Removable Storage Manager’ feature, otherwise you won’t be able to recover any file. Also, please note that the program is able to restore only *.bkf files, so if you want to read data from other file formats, a dedicated recovery software is mandatory.
Whether you experienced hardware or storage media failures, or the original data on your hard disk has been accidentally erased or overwritten, or simply became inaccessible, you can easily recover it from the archived copy with ease.
Still, the application is not intended to remain into PCs that are running operating systems such as Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. After the restoring process is finished and you got back all your important files and settings, you should remove the program from your computer.
To wrap it up, Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility proves to be a steady and reliable solution when it comes to recovering backups that were made on Windows XP and on Windows Server 2003.
