Date Reminder

Date Reminder is a tiny and portable app that you can use to create simple lists with tasks and reminders. It contains just a few basic options that can be easily figured out.

Portability advantages

Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the executable file anywhere on the disk and just click it to run Date Reminder. It's also possible to copy it to a USB flash drive to directly launch it on any computer effortlessly and without previous installers. More importantly, it doesn't change Windows registry settings.

Simple interface and options

The user-friendly GUI is represented by a small window with a plain and simple structure. It doesn't put emphasis on graphical elements but it's pretty easy to navigate.
You can create as many memos as you want by specifying a name, date and text color, and organize them into different categories by type. They can be sorted in the list by year, month or day.
It's possible to edit reminders, remove any date from the list, filter memos by category, minimize Date Reminder to the taskbar, make the frame stay on top of other windows, ask the tool to automatically run at every Windows startup until further notice, modify the default sorting order, as well as enable audio or text alerts on dates.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that Date Reminder didn't hang, crash or display error messages. It had a good response time and minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.
On the other hand, it's quite obvious that the utility hasn't been updated for a long time, especially by judging its interface. Nevertheless, Date Reminder can be used for creating simplistic reminders and enabling alerts.
