XP QuickRes Description
XP QuickRes is a small-sized and portable software utility that you can use to easily switch through multiple monitor profiles with different resolutions and frequencies. It does not include complex features or configuration settings, making the app accessible to all types of users, regardless of their level of experience.
Portability advantages
Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run.
Another possibility is to save XP QuickRes to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any computer seamlessly and without installing anything else.
What's more, the app does not modify Windows registry settings or create extra files on the disk, leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Accessibility via the system tray
Once started, XP QuickRes creates an icon in the system tray area to provide users with a quick means of toggling monitor profiles. There are several types of resolutions available, ranging between 640x480 and 1280x1024, and each one comes with a few frequency types. Screen modifications are applied as soon as a profile is selected. In addition, you can open the display properties area without leaving the interface.
Evaluation and conclusion
Unfortunately, XP QuickRes does not integrate options for specifying a custom width and height for the desktop. On top of that, it does not support resolutions larger than 1280x1024. We must also take into account that the app has not been updated for a long time.
Otherwise, the program requires a very low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. Although it's outdated, it worked smoothly on Windows 7 in our tests. Nevertheless, users may resort to more reliable tools for navigating multiple network profiles.
